i-5 Flag to be Lowered for Munns ...
March 30/08
Redding's giant flag will be lowered to half-staff on
the funeral day of slain Anderson private security contractor Joshua
Munns, Enterprise Lions Club president Mike Ferrier said Friday. The
club takes the decision seriously because the huge Bechelli Lane flag
“makes a monumental statement,” Ferrier said. It can easily be seen
from Interstate 5. “Almost every time we lower the flag, (people ask)
why is the flag lowered, and if it’s not lowered, they want to know
why not,” he said...

March 26/08
A portion of Interstate 5 north of Corning in Tehama
County will be renamed for the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians in a
ceremony Tuesday afternoon, the California Department of
Transportation announced. A measure authored by Sen. Sam Aanestad was
signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on July 7, designating the more
than five-mile stretch of freeway between Gyle Road and Flores Avenue
as the Nomlaki Highway...

New commercial zone at Oasis Road has stalled because of the
overwhelming cost of improving the Interstate 5 interchange ...
March 23/08
The city's long-planned new commercial zone at Oasis
Road has stalled because of the overwhelming cost of improving the
Interstate 5 interchange. An Idaho-based developer has proposed more
than 700,000 square feet of commercial space -- think five or six
"big-box stores" -- on Knighton Road and I-5, in Churn Creek Bottom.
That project jarringly conflicts with the county's general plan, but a
vote of the supervisors can fix that detail....

exit....

I-5 pursuit ends in Red Bluff with stun gun blast ...
March
11/08
A woman was arrested Saturday evening after leading
California Highway Patrol officers on an Interstate 5 pursuit
beginning at Knighton Road just south of Redding and ending at the
Chevrolet dealership off Adobe Road in Red Bluff.
A Redding CHP officer initially pulled over Tire Boster, 46, of
Brentwood for speeding, CHP Officer Roger Smith said. Boster seemed
confused and began to drive away, first at about 25 mph and then
accelerating to about 55 mph, and braking for no apparent reason,
Smith said. The officer deployed spike strips flattening three of the
cars' tires near Blue Tent Creek. Boster continued southbound and
exited on Adobe Road, stopping at the car dealership. Boster did not
obey commands, and an officer deployed a stun gun and she was taken
into custody....

Roadway name change contemplated ...
March
9/08
Anyone harboring strong feelings about renaming part of
Auditorium Drive for the Sundial Bridge can sound off Tuesday. Redding
had originally sought to rename Highway 44 from Interstate 5 to
Auditorium for the Sundial Bridge, at a cost of some $60,000. But the
city dropped that idea after learning Caltrans could get signs for
"Sundial Bridge Drive" along I-5 that would cost $12,000....

Vehicles on I-5 hit by rocks ...
March
5/08
A 20-year-old Anderson woman suffered a bruised right
shoulder Monday night after someone chucked a rock at the car she was
riding in as she passed near the Hartnell Avenue overpass on
Interstate 5. The driver of a big rig also reported a broken window
from a rock thrown from the same area around 8:50 p.m. Calling the act
"unconscionable," the California Highway Patrol is asking for the
public's help in finding those responsible. Carrie Sanford, 20, of
Anderson said she was driving toward north Redding with her friend,
Shawna Brown, in Sanford's Chevy Malibu when the rock shattered her
window and thumped -- hard -- into her friend's shoulder....

4/08
A wanted parolee from Louisiana was arrested Monday
after leading police and a California Highway Patrol helicopter on a
chase that began on Lake Boulevard in Redding and ended on Interstate

of reckless endangerment while failing to yield to a police officer....
